The Vico12 guide / On foot

Naples’ historic centre, one step at a time.

From Vico Lazzi to Piazza del Gesù, then through cloisters, workshops and narrow streets: a walk to fit your pace, without spending your day in transit.

Naples from above. Below, a city to explore on foot.

A walk from Piazza del Gesù to San Gregorio Armeno

Start at Vico Lazzi 12 and walk to Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. Continue towards Santa Chiara and along Spaccanapoli, taking a detour to Cappella Sansevero, then San Gregorio Armeno and Piazza San Gaetano. Stop after one or two sights if you prefer: there is no need to visit every interior in one day.

  1. 01

Piazza del Gesù and Santa Chiara

Begin with the square and Gesù Nuovo church. For a quieter stop, choose the Santa Chiara complex: the cloister entrance is at Via Santa Chiara 49c. The square and the cloister are separate experiences; check the official site for cloister admission and tickets.

    Spaccanapoli and Cappella Sansevero

Follow Via Benedetto Croce towards Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. To see the Veiled Christ, plan the walk around your ticket’s time slot: booking at Museo Cappella Sansevero is mandatory. Do not rely on last-minute admission being available.

San Gregorio Armeno and Piazza San Gaetano

Continue to the street of nativity-scene workshops, then Via dei Tribunali. If you add an underground visit, the Napoli Sotterranea association’s route starts at Piazza San Gaetano 69, beside San Paolo Maggiore basilica. Check the meeting point for the tour you choose: Naples has several different underground visits.

Plan your visit without rushing

How much time should you allow?

Keep at least half a day free if you want to visit museums and stop for lunch. This is a suggested pace, not a guaranteed duration: queues, bookings and breaks all affect your day.

Short on time, or a rainy day?

Choose one indoor visit and a short walk nearby instead of booking several tight time slots. Santa Chiara and Cappella Sansevero have different arrangements: check each official site.

Walking or the metro?

This route through the old centre can be explored on foot. Università and Dante on Metro Line 1 are useful stops for the Santa Chiara area, followed by a walk. Use the apartment’s map to plan from your actual arrival point.

Is the route suitable for everyone?

The lanes can be crowded and have uneven paving. This itinerary is not an accessibility assessment: if you have mobility requirements, check routes and entrances with each venue before booking.
